I found this book charming and sweet. I liked that it captured Belle's love of reading and that in this she was trying to pass that to others, to let others expand their minds and know the joy of a good book. I also like that she was a prisoner because of his staff rather than him. Though she was not so silly as to believe their fibs in all honesty. The beast was an angry, bitter, regretful man, the beauty took none of his sass and checked his behavior and in the end, he realized he wanted to earn her love and sets out to do just that. It's adorable and I am so glad his looks do not change! No magical transformation, just a scarred man and a woman able to see past the outside to the sweetness inside.

Samantha Holt does a wonderful job of re-imagining the Beauty and the Beast Story. In this case the Duke is considered a best by the villagers ever since the death of his wife and his loss of sight in one eye. He has walled himself in his estate letting it fall to ruins around him while he spends all his time int he library. Our Beauty, Isabel, is new to the village and wants to open a lending library but she only has 4 books, She makes her way to the castle to ask the Duke to help by donating books or money. She has her own Gaston (Garth) to put up with and even a title doesn't make him more appealing.
Forced to spend some time at the Duke's estate due to weather and the fact that she fell and hurt her knee, she comes to learn that the Beast is anything but beastly and the real beast in the story is Garth who challenges the Duke to a duel over the lovely Isabel.
This was a quick read - a delightful taste of romance with a sprinkling of fairy tale dust thrown in.
