Ahh I’m finding it so hard to rate this, because there were parts I absolutely loved, and had me kicking my feet, and then there were moments that made me put the book down just because it was too much.

I really like a second chance romance. There’s something really endearing and realistic about the idea of right person wrong time, and the possibility or rekindling a relationship. I think it worked in this one because their breakup was kind of no fault, but also both of their fault. Ghosting someone and vanishing would definitely imply that the relationship had ended to me! Seeing them reconnect was sweet but I think I would have appreciated seeing them go on more dates, instead of so many time skips to get to the key moments.

So onto my dislikes. I feel like the pacing wasn’t quite right in here, there was so much build up of them being friends with benefits and navigating that relationship, and while I understand why they broke up/ended things, I wish they had talked it through. At that point there was only 30 ish pages left, and they hadn’t actually been officially together, and in my romance I like an official relationship.

This is also very clearly placed in time with a lot, and I mean a lot, of pop culture references, we get specific celebrity relationships mentioned and names of real songs, which I don’t love. I prefer a separation of my fiction from reality and I would rather have a description of the music/musician than just saying an IRL pop stars name.

3.5 fun, fast, and cute!! this has everything i like also i feel represented so yay. on the fence about pacing and plot but idk i still had fun <3

A strong reminder that not only am I not a second chance romance girlie but I’m not a niche pop culture reference in contemporary romance girlie either.

Wow I really enjoyed this book! I am pleasantly surprised.

Gemma and Celeste were so mature throughout this book and I felt like that made things more realistic. The couple interviews for the Horizon made my heart swoon. Some of the lines were so adorable; I was literally beaming while reading them.

Although there is somewhat a
third act breakup
, but I 100% think it was for the best. Celeste and Gemma were able to go to therapy to better themselves and I really think that shows true love; wanting to be better for your loved ones.

Overall, I think Lyla Lee is on my watchlist and I even requested for her next novel to be in my local library.

This is a fun forced proximity/second chance romance. Which is especially funny given the nightmare scenario of already working with one’s ex-fiancée and then finding out you have to work on a special project with the ex from a few years ago that you never quite got over and didn’t even know was back in the country. Whew! I had a good time watching Gemma and Celeste reconnect, find their individual closures from their college relationship, and build something new as adults.

I started this in print and switched to audio. The narration by Natalie Naudus and Catherine Ho is fantastic.
