A good story and plot...
First Elif Şafak book i read and tbh i have read it twice already...

A lovely book. For someone who has an interest in religion of any kind, it’s a five star read!
slow-paced

Perhaps it was more groundbreaking in 2009. What could’ve been accomplished in a short story dragged on and on with so many random POVs that took us away from the story at the centre, meaning that we never got to truly know Rumi and Shams or understand their love. Dare I say it read like fanfiction as well.

While I enjoyed learning about Sufism and agree with its main idea—that people are more important than scripture—both Ella and Rumi used that idea to justify abandoning their parental duties. I support Ella leaving her asshole husband, and even travelling with Aziz, but moving to another continent while 2/3 of her kids are still in high school? Hell no.
