I really loved some of these essays and others were okay and others weren’t my favorite. Overall worth the read, Samantha is very funny.
She is hilarious I liked her recipes for comfort food and cocktails throughout this book. However this book gets a 4 because I can only hear about explosive diarrhea in so many reimagining before I become both repulsed and bored.

Finished this book while dealing with my own gastric unpleasantness due to a COVID vaccine, so appreciated the toilet humour and recipes for bland food! The essays were funny and relatable in a way that made me wish that I knew the author personally.

Samantha Irby is a really talented writer, and I did laugh out loud a couple times while reading/listening to Meaty. But the extremely-2013 style of self-deprecating, sarcastic lamentations on how difficult “adulting” is just do not work for me at this point in my life, unfortunately.
A lot of this essay collection felt like filler, and she kept repeating the same sentiments about (a) wanting to exclusively wear comfy clothes (b) being a lazy cook and (c) hating having sex with men - to the point where by the end I was exhausted and sad for her, instead of laughing along.
I’m really glad she’s in a relationship with a woman now, lol!! She describes so many terrible sexual experiences with men that just made me depressed and led to me questioning why she kept sleeping with them at all, and it actually made me quite sad? And I’m generally a man-hater, too! But it’s just not fun (for me) to read about how gross she thinks men are over and over, when like… there’s a very easy solution to that problem… idk

I didn't love this as much as her two newer books, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it a ton!!
