God

Damn

I honestly didn’t know how this was going to end. I think I’m still in shock about how much I loved this book…

This book understood me in such a way (I can’t think of any descriptive words rn) and I don’t know if I’ve ever felt this way before… wow

Libby and Nora’s conversation about the parent looking toward the older sibling to take care of the youngest took a sniper and shot a hole in my chest where my heart was. I relate deeply to that, having raised my younger brother for many years and the author tackled that fear of never being there for your sibling when they need you most SO WELL. I WAS TEARING UP THE LAST 30%~ OF THIS BOOK BECAUSE OF THE SISTERS, MY GOD. I love my brother dearly, I would tear apart the world for him. I would do anything to guarantee his happiness and this book gets it! It understands the older sibling plight!

The fear of being alone was also personal and it was balanced nicely by the love Nora and her mother had for New York. They viewed it magically and every description the author wrote for city life WAS AN EXACT REPLICATION OF HOW I FEEL IN MY SOUL. HOLY SHIT I AM SO GLAD I READ THIS BOOK EVEN THOUGH I KEEP SNIFFING BACK TEARS. I NEEDED THIS. There’s magic in every place we live and there’s love that follows us to every place we go. And DAMMIT EMILy HENRY, THIS WAS A GOOD-ASS BOOK.

Charlie…. Ooohh Charlie. I love you and Nora. The minute I read “I was always gonna give Libby the apartment” (idk actual page this is paraphrased), from Charlie to Nora, I knew these mofos had to end up together. If they didn’t get the ending they did, I would’ve RIOTED.

There’s so many wonderful points to touch on, like the stereotypes (especially Nora’s), backstories, relationships, juxtapositions, editing sequences for Frigid, oh man. I’ll probably add more detail to this review once the book has permanently ingrained itself in my brain.❤️

My only criticism is that the time seemed to jump around. I thought that Nora was there for two weeks based on how time was described but they were barely there for a week apparently? Time was confusing, that’s all.

Before I forget:

Plot Execution: 5/5
Characters: 5/5
Writing: 4/5
Concept: 5/5
Romance: 6/5 (is that possible?)
Vibes: 4/5
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Immediately on my favorites list. This book was perfect. It’s a love letter to the city and the small town, to sisters, to books, to your own dreams. It feels reminiscent of Hallmark tropes but in ways you wouldn’t expect and that are actually fun and entertaining. I haven’t literally laughed out loud while reading a book so much in forever. Loved every minute of it
