That was utterly charming. Math! Swoony crushing! I think that the particular tone of lusty mathemetician country maid swoony crushing on cross-dressing French inventor dyke was the catnip I didn't know I had.

I haven't been the world's biggest Gail Carriger fan -- I never got past the first Parasol Protectorate book -- but there was honestly no need to have read the others in the series to enjoy this one. Definitely the best f/f romance I've read in a long time. Bumped up to 5 stars and the love-love-love shelf because genuinely delightful f/f genre romances are few and far between!

Adorably cute with lots of characterization & depth of storyline. I loved seeing all the other characters in this universe

This is a stand alone book, not part of one of Carriger's amazing Steampunk series, BUT it features Genevieve Lefoux, one of my favorite characters! Lefoux has made appearances, either prominently, or by honorable mention, in each of the series I love, so I was glad to see her here.

The writing was superb, as I have come to expect, but the ending was...a bit rushed. I'm fine with the old "happily ever after" trope when the journey to that final stop is believable. In this little tale, about 2/3 of the journey was terrific, but that final rush was just that, a rush.

I would have given this five stars had the ending been a bit more intense, but all in all a great way to spend a couple of hours in Carriger's England.
