This book has a wonderfully interesting plot that kept me reading well after I should've gone to bed. The protagonist Theo Cray's intellect is great fun to follow, and the pacing is well executed. I didn't find Dr. Cray's emotions particularly compelling (his grief over the death of his former student and his devotion to Jillian both asked me to make a bit of a stretch), but still, The Naturalist is a quick, easy read and, in my opinion, well worth your time.

Wow! I just loved this book so much and it was awesome to read from the POV of Theo who is the main character. Would definitely continue with this series. I've become a fan of Andrew Mayne's writing.

This book had a slow start which is why I’m only giving this 4/5 stars. Nonetheless, the middle and the end picked up so much I was finding any time I could to listen to this book. It’s intense and gory, but that’s what made it good. Chilling.

I picked this up as my September Kindle First selection, and I honestly wasn't expecting much from it since I have a pretty bad track record of choosing poor Kindle First reads 9 out of 10 times. I am a sucker for mysteries/thrillers that are rooted in scientific facts (note: I'm not a scientist, so I can't speak as to whether or not these facts are actually true, but they SOUND plausible, and that's all that really matters to me!), and The Naturalist is chock-full of realistic-sounding science.

I really enjoyed about 85% of the book, but the ending felt a bit rushed, far-fetched, and only loosely explained (especially vs. the depth of detail and reasoning provided in the rest of the book!). Still, an entertaining quick read that I was glad I picked up.

I love the use of science in this book. I love that nothing felt too far fetched. Would make a very good movie.

What a crazy ride this story was. Such a STRONG start to Dr. Theo Cray series and his scientific brain.

If you studied Biology or Statistics and enjoy mystery/murders, this book is for you! Very ingenious and a new view on the genre. Love love love.

Really loved all the science stuff in the book. The ending is what made me not give it a perfect 5. Felt rushed and aspects seemed silly/ unnecessary in a book that to this point seemed so factual

Not great literature, but it held my interest and was entertaining.
