Absolutely loved this retelling of Medea’s story.. The twists and turns from her traditional story really make you sympathize with Medea. It also reiterates how men have usually written women in mythology, as victims or the monsters/witches. Its as close to perfect of a feminist retelling as we deserve, Medea’s is shown to be exactly who she is witch, mother, kinslayer, a titan’s descendant, murderer, wife, and woman.

Looking forward to reading other books by Eilish Quin.in the future.

I received a copy of Medea from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very solid book for a debut novel. Is it particularly outstanding, compared to all of the other feminist retelling that are currently being published? Kinda? It's not bad by any means but it's not my favorite book.

I really enjoyed how Quin picked what she wanted out of the various version of Medea and made this story. I really enjoyed the falling out of love/magic of the love gods fading after things have served their purpose.

Would I suggest this to anyone? no. Would I suggest this to people who've read books like Circe, Ariadne, and a Thousand Ships? Absolutely. This book is does what it sets out do.

It would have been a 4, but there were timeline issues related to the myths she included that annoyed me too much to overlook.
