This book is amazing. Bringing together two people of different lifestyles is always interesting. I love Momoko, I wish that I could live the Rococo lifestyle, however, it is a little bit too expensive. However, I love how that I recognized Baby, the Stars Shine Bright line. So it was easy to imagine what kind of clothes she would wear, since that store is a sweet lolita line.

The book and I shared some laughs, I wasn't really surprised since the reviews said that it was funny. I love how the author wrote as Momoko, she is certainly full of spunk! However, what I found was that this book did have it's serious spots. Well, that was towards the end of the book, I won't spoil anything, but I'll say that the comedy leaves, well, maybe not completely, it's still there.

I really hope the second book comes to America soon. I would love to read it!

Also, I would just like to say that I ship Momoko and Ichigo. They understand each other on a deeper level than what most friends would. Well, that's just my opinion.

so funny so entertaining so good!!! the kind of book u decide to reread every summer for a good time. the characters truly made this novel and i appreciated that

had a somewhat hard and stressful time getting my hands on this - it was officially declared lost by the post! originally had to be my christmas read but because of the circumstances it became my new year's day book. in my mind's eye i was wearing my dress from baby while reading this, but unfortunately i share an apartment with a white fluffy beast. but it needs to happen in reality at some point…
i adore the movie version of this so maybe i'll get the comparison with it out of the way first. the movie, i think, is more accessible and fun bc so much of the plot relies on aesthetics. and i also think that the director had made the right call by shuffling some events around and making both momoko and ichigo slightly less horrible. but otherwise it was a very faithful adaptation - i could hardly believe sometimes how accurate it was, down to characters' outfits… but the book also went more in depth about the specifics of history and fashion - i think it captured the spirit of lolita as a rebellious movement very well and i liked how it discussed aesthetics, taste and so on (i didn't really know anything about the author before but i was so relieved to find out that he was also a lolita..).
but overall yes, this was cute and fun! i think i would mostly recommend it to the fans of the movie who would like to experience the story again in a different form. i hear that there's a sequel but untranslated at this point.. heh...

Kamikaze girls is probably one of my favorite movies, which is a tough position for the book to be in. That said, it had charm and knowledge that didn't come across the same way in the movie, while still resonating deeply with the spirit of the whole thing. Very glad I read it.

Momoko is a Lolita. She lives by the Rococo lifestyle and dresses in frilly little girl clothes. She looks down at the Yanki's or uneducated. Then she meets Ichiko (who's real name is Ichigo/strawberry), and she is a hard-core biker. She may not be as intelligent, but she has the ethics that Momoko doesn't.
They are as different as two girls can be, but this is their story.

I read this book for a book group and I never would have read it on my own. It's geared for teens, but the language is foul and in the beginning it seems as though the book is about nothing at all. At least, nothing of importance. But it does get better and the climax is in the end. I'll say no more so I don't give anything away.
