I honestly only checked this out because I had a 15 hour road trip planned and I'll listen to Dan Jones narrate anything. I wanted The Plantagenets but that wasn't available so here we are. For someone who isn't at all interested in The Crusades, religion or warfare, I did find this mildly enjoyable. Probably because I like the author and feel he did an excellent job at researching and turning something I'd traditionally find dull into an engaging narrative.
If anything, my biggest takeaway from listening to this was to confirm what I already believe: religion is the most ridiculous made-up concept to ever exist and it's absolutely disgusting that
1. people feel it's within their right to force they're ridiculous belief on others, and
2. that they feel it's within their right to use their religion as an excuse to murder , colonize and enslave anyone who dares to disagree with their belief.
It's fucking asinine that in 2024+ we're still dealing with the same shit that was happening over a thousand years ago.
