2nd read
I love this book with all my heart for two reasons:
1) even though the character bears no physical resemblance to Adam Driver, that's who I've always pictured as Finn and I will never stop.
2) I have a soft, masochistic spot for misplaced and unrequited love. I just love having my heart torn out, repeatedly.

beautiful

A coming-of-age story told by a teen grieving over her uncle's death from AIDS in the mid-1980s. Many of the characters are compelling and realistic, but I felt teased by the book, wishing it had taken the plot much further than it did.

A compelling coming-of-age story set n the 1980's with a likeable teen character, June, at its center who is struggling to come to terms not only with growing up but also with grieving and the loss of her beloved uncle to AIDS. Read my full review:

If I’m being perfectly honest, I hated this book for the first half. June is in love (and I mean seriously in love) with her gay uncle who is dying of AIDS. When he does pass away, his boyfriend (whom she knew nothing about) lured her out so they can share stories and their love for him. And did I mention they meet in secret, he introduces her to smokes and gets her drunk?

In the end it is heart warming ending and I can see why it comes so highly rated. If you’re like me and hating it at first, keep going. You will not regret it.
