"I was the girl who never understood who she was to people."

3.5...ended strong but took a long time to get there. Didn't feel particularly connected to any of the characters for most of the book.

I just finished reading "Tell the Wolves I'm Home" and I am awestricken. This seemingly simple, straight-forward narrative is so rich in its complexity, nothing I could write would do it justice. What a wonderful story!

Brunt is one author that I will follow closely.

beautifully written story. Brunt makes you feel so many different emotions simultaneously, which makes this a great coming of age read. June is my new favorite protagonist.

I struggle with character driven novels but this one resonated with me. It is hard to review it because I don't even know how to describe but it was incredibly thought provoking, philosophical, emotional without going into sappy and filled with clever symbolic language. It truly embodied the writing concept of "show don't tell" and doesn't pound you over the head with any deep or profound ideas but allow you to uncover them on your own.

I believe this book had a lot of potential but the plot was so lacking. Everyone in the family except June and Finn were horrible. Their half-cooked subplots did not redeem them in the slightest. Toby was the best part of the story (Finn was good too but it was mostly his memory that we got). The AIDS discussions and plot were moving and meaningful, but everything else sucked and the book was mostly everything else. Why was there a sub plot where June is in love with her uncle? What? Why was that here? It took away from the parts of the story that worked. June and Toby sharing stories and memories of Finn was really great, for example. This could have been so good if executed differently.

What a beautiful, touching novel whose young protagonist is wise beyond her years. I look forward to the author's next novel.
