I loved this book. It was beautifully written and told a tragic tale in an understated way. I could not put it down.

This book is a wonderful story about a family and dealing with AIDS and death. June has to learn to forgive and open her heart again. I think we can all relate to the story even though the main character is 14 and it's placed in the 1980s. Carol Rifka Brunt is a beautiful writer and I enjoyed this novel very much.

Was not crazy about this book. Did not love the characters. However, I felt I could have gone to high school with the main character, and even though I couldn't really relate to her, I enjoyed seeing through her POV.

A little hard to get into at first but it wins you over with the relationships that develop by the end of the book

u know it’s good when u have to stop reading on the plane so u don’t cry :)

I think my rating would really be more of 3.5, but I figure if I read the book in two days, I should probably round up.

The book strikes me as more a story about siblings than anything else. Some other perspectives would be nice, but I tend to like multi-narrated books. So many secrets, so much pain, so much jealousy.

I read a review that mentioned the 80s references, that there were too many/trying too hard, and I totally disagree. I needed more because I had to continually remind myself of how AIDS was viewed in the 80s, how new it was. I needed to frame people's reactions. Toward the end of the book, there's some talk about the "cool" radio station, and I would have liked a little more of that, I guess.

One last sidenote: I did not know about D&D in the 80s, and to be honest, I didn't really know it was around then.

I liked but didn’t love it as much as I expected to. Beautiful story but felt it dragged in some parts.

Lovely.
