This book was beautifully written. I adored Toby's character, and Greta fascinated me, even when she was being mean.
The problem that I had with this book was the narrator. June made me cringe. A lot. I know that teenage girls can be naive and self-centered, but she really got on my nerves. And her obsession with her uncle was sick. Still, she was brave and had a very kind heart, and that redeemed her for me.

Complex characters dealing with love, death, grief, family secrets, adolescence, and AIDS. It sucked me in from page 1.
This was a sweet and somewhat sad book about a young girl who is trying to cope with the death of her uncle. In a time when everyone was scared of AIDS, the pre-teen doesn't know what to believe about her uncle or her family or her friends. Her relationship with her sister is strained, as they keep each other at bay and continue to harbor secrets from one another.
I liked it and felt like it was a sweet tale of a girl coping with her unfamiliar grief.

I like June's voice a lot but this is reminding me of things from the 1980's I'd rather forget. Such a heartbreaking and honest story about first love.

A very simple yet elegant read. It was easy to put yourself into the story and feel the heartbreak and happiness of the characters. A great read for Thanksgiving break!
Wish I could give this book more than 5 stars, it really deserves more.
