Kris Saknussemm has become one of the my favorite authors of all time. His stellar, dark and weird prose, his wonderfully crafted plots and characters make his books completely unputdownable.
The Humble Assessment(psychatric evaluation?) is the story of a very unconventional job interview. I find it very difficult to describe the plot without giving anything away; so I will tell you that the author leaves nothing to chance (as he always does) and that the psychedelic and clostrophobic athmosphere of the story will haunt you.
Ah, Interviewer N°1 is quite reminiscent of Genevere (Private Midnight), which I loved.
The only reason I am not giving The Humble Assessment 5 stars is because the blurb on the back cover contains a major spoiler. A shame!
