My friend has been nagging me to read this book for at least a year now, saying that it's hilarious and that I will love it. Last week, armed with an amazon coupon, I finally budged and bought the first installment in the series. All I can say: thank you, brah, now I can't put the damn series down!
The book is written in first person so we see the world through the eyes of love-smitten Rae who somehow ends up in the world of the otome game Revolution, wherein instead of romancing one of the dude options, she goes for the main villain of the story, Claire. And let me tell you, when I say Claire is 99% tsun and 1% dere, I am not exaggerating. But here is the fun thing, Rae actually enjoys Claire's bullying and keeps confessing her love, which leaves Claire utterly dumbfounded.
Let me warn you, do not take this book seriously, because that really would ruin it. Seriously, the way Rae practically stalks Claire and the way Claire hurls abuse after abuse at her, if taken out of context, does look problematic. But it works? Most of the time, I was laughing my ass off at all the insanity that was going on and never once did I feel like "damn this is toxic", which is utterly confusing to me now that I'm typing this out. Probably because the book uses the typical anime tropes that I am so used to in romances, with the ice-queen tsundere and the persistent protagonist (with a masochistic streak in this case) and this being a light novel, I immediately associated it with that culture. And sure enough, in anime-world this is the way to help the tsundere come out of her shell and find someone who truly cares about them.
Another interesting thing was that you could feel the authors (past or present) struggles with her (presumably) own sexuality shine through the pages which lent this lighthearted, crazy ass book another unexpected depth.
The only thing that did bother me from time to time was the translation which sometimes felt really janky and out of place. Not to mention the occasional editing mistake, which also broke the immersion. But luckily enough, the simplistic style of the book itself mean that these didn't bother me that much. Which is where I'd like to point out: do not expect high literature. This reads more like a manga with more text if anything.
Nonetheless, this series is definitely my new guilty pleasure and I love it to bits and pieces.
So if you like shounen ai mixed with isekai and a pinch of insanity, read this book! It will be good for you, trust me!

I loved everything about this. It was hilarious and exaggerated just like a game world would be, and even though Rae was annoying as hell she never took advantage of Claire. Can’t wait to read vol. 2.

I have many complaints about this one, starting with the unnecessary incest plotline. This was recommended by a lot of people, and I could see the hype around it, but it got boring really fast. Bland characters. By the end of the novel, I saw no development among the characters outside Claire. Chapter 3 was the only slightly interesting part, but that got ruined quickly due to incest.

*EXPLOSIONS* I LOVE WOMEN. this book was a solid 4 stars. For the most part I thought it was a very enjoyable read of the average Main Character Falls In Love With Villain wlw. The only con I'd have is the pacing as sometimes i felt like it went a bit too quickly, but aside from that the author really makes you fall in love with them, I read this so fast its not even funny.
