Unteachable

Elliot Wake

3.54 AVERAGE

Unteachable begins when Masie meets a man at a carnival. She's a messed up eighteen year old senior in high school, with problems at home. And she meets Evan someone she knows is a lot older, but she also knows that there is something different about him. They each find some sort of connection in the other when they meet and have sex. But then she bails on him because it felt to real.

They thought they would never see each other again. But when school starts Maise realizes that Evan is actually her teacher. At first neither one of them know what to do, but being in the same class every day with out actually "being together" gets difficult. So they form a secret relationship.

This book was not a nice fluffy angsty read. Oh no, it was very "gritty" and so REAL feeling. It shows the bad side of life that actually seems realistic. I will be honest at first I really didn't like Evan. I almost thought he was using Masie, but later on realized that wasn't the case at all. I loved how this book was written, and I loved the characters. So over all the book was very good. I really enjoyed it.

I love student/teacher romances, but this was not for me. The first half of the book made me pretty uncomfortable. I couldn't get into this relationship at all. The ending was pretty lame. When I thought there would be a change/twist for the better, it just never happened. Sorry :(

The writing in this book is so magnificent and delectable, I was shocked. I loved the main character, I felt like we really got to know her and connect with her which was great.

This book is majorly about a relationship between a teacher and a student and the qualms that come with a forbidden romance.

It was really awesome and definitely one of the most well-done books about that kind of thing.

Most of the reviews I read before reading this were very positive so I expected magic. Really though it was a very normal book to me, I'm not sure what's particularly intriguing about this book, it's grand like.

This is the story of eighteen-year-old Maise O’Malley who is a high school student. Because of her circumstances and her life with an addicted mother and a father whom she never saw, she always lived like she was a grown-up woman. Having affairs with older men is something not new for her. But one night she meets this man in his thirties at a carnival and things get intense between them. The man later turns out to be her new film class teacher, Mr. Evan Wilke. The relationship between the two will have lots of ups and downs. They will do their best to continue and keep it a secret. But there is the society and other people in their lives who will never accept this forbidden teacher and student love if they find out. They both knew that very well.

“...You should love something while you have it, love it fully and without reservation, even if you know you'll lose it someday. We lose everything. If you're trying to avoid loss, there's no point in taking another breath, or letting your heart beat one more time. It all ends." His fingers curl around mine. "That's all life is. Breathing in, breathing out. The space between two breaths.”

This is one of those romantic stories that have many sex scenes between the two main characters, so if that makes you uncomfortable this might not be the right book for you. The story tackles many subjects, forbidden love, age gap, substance addiction, obsession, and friendship. What I liked a lot about Leah Raeder’s writing is that it is relevant in so many ways. This is definitely not those brainless romantic stories that you will have fun with and as soon as it is over you forget about them. This story will make you think and question many things. To be honest, I did not expect it to do that or to be that intense. The chemistry and the love story between the two characters was so strong. Yes, there was a lot of lust but it was very obvious that the two were very much in love with each other.

The book is filled with awesome quotes that made the reading very interesting. The character development was solid. Sometimes the pace of the story became slow and events did not move in the same consistency, but still, that was not a major issue. I love how the story started on a rollercoaster ride and how it ended on a plane! The whole book felt like a rollercoaster ride. With you, as a reader enjoying all the ups and downs in the characters’ relationship just like the ups and downs of a rollercoaster ride!

this book was perfect. from the tone, the voice, the inner workings of plot. the vibrancy of voice just swept me away. Maise was a disillusioned 18 yo. but meeting Evan Wilke changed her. beautifully and terrifyingly real.

Finally finished! Not sure what took me so long. Not my usual, but an interesting read. Took me back to my emotional 18 year old self, minus all the crazy drama.

I finished the book and i didn't like the ending. But just like most books its hard to find a good or even harder to a great ending. The book has its moment but its just a let down of how a person that seems smart and beautiful lets some on play with her mind so easily. Some people do thinks cause they have to and other people do things can they can. What are you a leader or a follower. I think she try to be both and fail at being both. In life you have to learn from your mistakes, and she only saw some else not her own. Yes its sad she didn't have a "normal family" but what you don't have should make you stronger. If her weakness is older man and sex. Its consider an addiction. No "Love", first you need to love your self before you love some one else. First you need to know your self before you start to live. Know what is an addiction and ambition also learn the difference between changing and compromised. Sometimes its better to be sweet nice than hard and strong. The advantage he has over her is that he knows what is better for him than she thinks. He understands right from wrong and he is taking a risk because he has a problem. So ask your self is it worth it? if it is then you know that answer of what kind of person are you. If you cant answer the question then continue life do not stop and stay. continue your path and it will make you stranger and better.

Well, okay, yeah. Now I get why the entire first page of reviews for this is filled with gifs and exclamation points and fancasting. (I kept picturing Charlie Hunnam and Kacey Rohl.)
