5.5.16: Still so confused. I need to read this again. Because I've clearly missed the point.

2.5 stars, it was ok, but I had issues with it.

sad and kind of repulsive story. It was well written & left me feeling empty and raw. I think I would rate it highly if I finished it, but I wanted a lighter read

-In school, you seem older than everyone. With me, you seem young. But I feel young with you too.
-We have no age. We exist outside of time. We’re timeless

2.5 Stars
I wasn't really a fan.
For me Maise and Evan didn't have any chemistry at all and I didn't get why they wanted to be together.
Also the writing was so weird sometimes. It was more like a script than a book, which I suppose was because Maise wanted to get into the film industry?
All in all I didn't really feel the story but some parts at the end I enjoyed.

Update 1/22/17: Rounding this down to two stars because I've decided that I was too nice with my rating. After thinking it over, there was basically nothing I liked about this book, so even two stars might be pushing it. Looks like I might be a bit of an unpopular opinion here, but oh well.

Original Review
The only reason I gave Unteachable three stars is because objectively, it is very beautifully written, with lyrical prose and whatnot. Unfortunately, that is one of the main reasons I couldn't ever get into this book. Some people will love this writing style, but me, not so much. I actually found myself skimming over those pretty descriptions and metaphors and having to force myself to get through it all. I also didn't connect with the main character, Maise, and found her to be quite irritable. And finally, taboo or not, I found no chemistry in the romance and groaned whenever I had to read yet another sex scene. Maybe it's just me, but the whole thing felt too insta-lovey to me, I'm sorry to say.
challenging emotional fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I feel conflicted about this one. The characters were flawed, yet likable? The story was tedious, yet intriguing? It was uncomfortable, yet sexy? See? I just don’t know.

Very good for an escapist romance fantasy. Highly recommend if you're interested.

DNF

I did not finish this book, it was not for me. I thought the writing was lovely, there were some delightful turns of phrase, and while I was struggling with the voice, because the writing had a lot of promise, I pushed on. The further I got, unfortunately, the less interested I got in reading on. I found the way the book was structured it took away the anticipation and build between the characters, and that is so much a part of the teacher/student taboo romance, is the pull of the will they/ won’t they, and when it was clear there wasn’t going to be a pull I decided it was time to put this one down, as I’d lost interest in the outcome.
