Geniaal geschreven.
Twaalf karakters die zo verschillen van elkaar en zo tot leven komen op het papier. Het is echt ontzettend knap. Hoe de schrijfster zich kan inleven in haar karakters en hoe ze allemaal anders denken en doen. Een van de beste karakter boeken die ik tot nu toe heb gelezen.
Zo’n mooi portret van verschillende generaties en perspectieven in de samenleving in Engeland. 
Oh en bizarre plottwisten in de verhalen. Hoe verzint ze het! 
Geweldig boek, geweldige schrijfster.

I really enjoy books told from multiple character’s perspectives and this one was especially interesting with 12 (!) main characters. It was interesting learning about each character and their interconnectedness. I felt like it was a bit hard to keep track of who was who or how they were related at some points given there were so many. I would’ve liked to get to know some of the characters better. It was a hard read at times due to various traumatic experiences they went through, but that also made it feel more real. The ending was a very sweet way to wrap it all up.

This book is beautifully complex and yet somehow simple at the same time. The way the book follows different characters through their lives and shows how they all link up is so very clever. The characters were so real and tangible and their experiences so different and yet so universal. I really enjoyed the way the book was split up into chapters and then into characters.

this is going to sound super cliche, but this was truly unlike anything i’ve read before. just, wow. the only complaint i had was that i was having a hard time picturing the characters after a while (which is a me problem so it doesn’t really count)
