I liked reading this book and I really liked the ending. I found myself wading through some of the chapters hoping to get to the ending, in fact. It was too many characters for me, but I was listening to the audio book. Might have been easier in print.

I did find the stories compelling though, and the way all different perspectives were put into contrast. The way you'd root for a character and then hear from a character who felt very negatively about them and why and you'd understand that perspective too, much of the time. It was a lot of trauma to take in though. Somehow I didn't see the end coming.
I didn't realize until the epilogue was in motion that Penelope was Hattie's long lost daughter. I honestly had no idea why Penelope was in the book, I was just sort of like "ok, and also this white woman." lol

3.5 stars, I've had trouble with the numerous characters. Otherwise, I liked the stories that intertwine with each other. Some are better than others, though. Overall, the book is, at times, very emotional, fierce, and boldly written, which I enjoyed a lot.

This was Junes book club readalong, there was times I wasn’t sure I would finish this read but I powered through and it was actually very poetic and beautiful.

Girl, Woman, Other follows a collection of women whose stories intertwine. With themes of race, feminism, gender, identification, rape and so much more. It is thought-provoking, captivating and although it was slower paced I felt I really connected with each character. There was utterly heartbreaking moments where I had to take a break because I was simply speechless but there was also very beautiful moments and I was truely proud of these powerful women in this book.

Other readers might say the lack of punctuation is an issues but it wasn’t a problem for me and after the first 20 pages you get used it this style of writing and I found it quite moving.

As much as I enjoyed this read, it did take me a while to read and I would recommend reading Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo.
