Wonderful, sad, funny, moving - it'll take time for me to really come to terms with the end of the book. A really interesting look particularly at how feminism and our modern understanding of gender can clash with older generations.

This book is a series of vignettes, which dives deeper into the lives of twelve people living in England, predominantly women of colour in London. Seeing how their lives intersect is interesting to follow, perhaps the main overarching ‘plot’ of the book. But more interesting is the way in which each character is treated with both neutrality and supreme affection. From intersectional feminist non binary farmer, to single mother Nigerian immigrant, to black lesbian playwright, to mildly racist aging white teacher - the many flaws of these characters coexist alongside their charms. You don’t necessarily like every character, but you care for them all the same.
All of this resulted in a rich picture of modern society, with all of its deep and multivaried issues, and also the hope which lives inside humanity as a whole and also each individual.
