This story was a pure delight from start to finish! I love a short story that is packed with pure emotion. This story packs friends to lovers with such childlike freedom that makes it sink into your heart. The sheer joy of Hester when with Benjamin was what made the story. She vowed to keep him from becoming a stuffy Lord, and she followed through with all the fierceness and determination of a pirate. In the span of 24 hours, they go from reluctant former friends to bosom pals to devoted lovers and it is the perfect reflection of their lifelong friendship. Time and distance mean nothing when friends are truly connected. These two have always been a team, a perfect match, a pure partnership. A love so tender that it is surrounded by light and laughter, and it is beautiful. I greatly enjoyed embarking on this journey, especially the life lesson of Benji’s inevitable attitude. “We’ll sort it on the way.” We all need that in our life, let it be and it will sort itself out with work and determination and love.

I devoured this story. Ate it up in one sitting. Loved it so so much.

Given the size of this story, the burn is sloooow here and I was ravenously waiting for our MCs to finally get their act together and realise they are perfect for each other. And it was very much worth it. FMC Hester is just looking for a bit of an escape from the monotony of her neglected day to day life when she 'kidnaps' MMC Benjamin, who is slowly suffocating under the expectations of his overbearing father. All the things you love to happen in a historical romance happen and it is wonderful.

I am once again desperately wating for Anne Knight's next story.
