The first book in a series that is my absolute favorite in the fantasy genre. Don’t read the rest until you read this one. Even though it’s a little more light-hearted, it sets the stage for the rest of the series.

I've been in such a horrible reading slump this last month, and I don't know what made me pick this up to pull me out of it but I'm SO glad I did.

I love how the fourth wall is constantly broken - how the narrator addresses the reader to remind them of things or to tell them to remember something for later - especially with the audiobook, as it really immerses you into the story, and makes it feel like you're a part of the grand adventure and not just reading it in a book.

This is a much lighter tale than the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the perfect book to pick up if you want to dip into this world, but not commit to the full trilogy.

I can't think of a better narrator for this series than Andy Serkis. The tingles I got when I reached Gollum's scene and Serkis did the voice, are unmatched.

This was my middle-earth. I've read Eragon, and sure, it was good, but, THIS book, everything from the goblins, to the elves, were amazingly detailed, and perfect. My parents used to read this to me when I was little, I plan on reading it to my kids someday...

This was a book that I've grown up with, or the movies at least. I've watched the original movie time and time again and all of the remakes and series as well. My mom has always been a HUGE fan of this universe and I can't say I blame her. I think she read "The Hobbit" to me long ago but I can't remember for sure. Anways, a read of it was long overdue and I was glad to finally read it myself.

As a rule I really don't re-read very often, and if I do usually it's because I've forgotton most of the book. I just hate knowing exactly what happens even if it's a book I love, and for that reason it was kind of hard for me to get into "The Hobbit." But there was a ton of diffrences the book had from the movies and they were fun to pick out and helped me get into it. It's also just a really well written book, so that helps.

I think what really made this book stand out to me are a couple of things. First, the pacing is just so good, like it's so fast paced and I was never board of anything becuase of it. Second, I think that the epic feeling of this book, the "high fantasy" persona of it really makes it fun. It's a classic for a reason.

If for some reason you haven't read this, it is worth it.

I have been a fan of the LOTR films for most of my life. I read the trilogy and did enjoy them, but found the writing to be a little difficult with all of the geographical language. The Hobbit is far easier to read, and the writing flows like a tale being told around a fire. Non-stop excitement and adventure once it gets rolling. I was very surprised that this would be my favourite Tolkien to date!
