This took me so long to get through... but it doesn't feel right to give lower than 4... Definitely worth reading either as an adult or as a school read. One of those books that you might wind up hating if you read it and analyze it in English class but actually there's so much going on with it in an interesting literary way that I would not have minded writing a 9th grade summer essay about it.

It's a great concept for a story and very thoughtful. The writing style is very interesting and having it in Death's POV makes for a really deep and compelling feeling... The ending I did feel for but not too much. I feel like we could have gone deeper to see the simultaneous good/evil of more people.

Maybe it's because I'm a Germanics graduate and have read so much other dark post-war lit considering the guilt of the average German during the World Wars... I wasn't as compelled by it as I was expecting to be since it's on so many peoples' 5 star list!
