The subtitle “Encouraging Truth Your Heart Needs to Hear, Especially on the Hard Days,” is such a good description! I don’t want to admit that I had tears on my eyes on the last pages, but this book is encouraging! I also want to highlight the Truth part of this book. This book is so set apart from the self-help genre, you have no idea. It is extremely truth-filled with scripture and points back to Jesus continually. I love the interactive elements and Biblically insightful questions that Holley challenges the reader to answer, and I just highly recommend reading this slowly, savoring the Gospel Truths and journaling alongside of it. Some of my favorite pages of “You’re Going to Be Okay” include discernment. Discernment is so important in knowing God’s Character over the enemy of our souls’ character. One example is she has a table of comparison between guilt and conviction. Guilt will condemn who we are, but conviction calls us back to who we are in Christ! Guilt discourages us, but conviction encourages us! Guilt causes more pain, but conviction brings healing. Guilt focuses on us, but conviction points us to Jesus! So many good truths for the heart on the hard days, Amen! Thank you so much, Holley for this TRUTH-filled book!

“You’re going to be okay. Not because life is easy. Not because you have it all together. Not because everything will work out the way you want. You’re going to make it through this because of who you are and Who you belong to.”

Great balance of scriptural, therapeutic, and scientific suggestions for living the life God wants for us. Because I’ve been on this journey a while I would say this is a solid basic primer.

I guess you'd label this as a Christian self-help book? I liked the easy conversational tone of the writing, like sitting down and talking with a friend. Casual, but definitely thought provoking. The beginning was a little redundant, but each message was important and I related more to what she was writing as the book progressed. The chapter on overcoming worry was especially good. I'll definitely be reading it again as a refresher on these core concepts about ourselves and God.

If I could chose any one nonfiction book to get me through the loss of a loved one, an illness, or just a bad day, I would pick [book:You're Going to Be Okay: Encouraging Truth Your Heart Needs to Hear, Especially on the Hard Days|18096353 by Holley Gerth. In fact, I feel that I could conquer the world with this book at me side. I've never felt more understanding of God and less fearful about life than I did when reading this message of encouragement and hope.

Gerth offers a lot of useful information and tools that allows readers to pick up this book and find what they need to help with worries, understanding God's truths, or living in joy. I read the Bible frequently, but I struggle with sometimes wondering if my response to negative circumstances is "normal." Gerth helped me out with this, as she was specific with the difference between what we should strive for, and what we cannot feel all the time (for instance, Gerth explained how we may not be happy or joyous all the time due to our circumstances, but we always need to come back to dwelling in the joy God offers us).

Gerth included a good balance of Scriptures, as well as peer-reviewed research to back up her claims. Most importantly, you won't find judgment in this book, or condemnation, or any kind of preaching. It truly came from the heart.
