Plot holes big enough to fly a blimp through. Apparently anything can be solved by a good French meal, which is more important than possible murder, eco terrorism, corporate greed, and gratuitous violence to a poor little dog. Nope.

I really enjoyed this book, as we see Bruno investigating suspicious deaths related to the potential city-government facilitated sale of value wine country land below its market value. I started this as soon as I finished Bruno, Chief of Police, and appreciated being thrust back into the setting, picking up in the fall
after Bruno and Isabelle's intense summer romance that ends when she goes to Paris for her new position
. Some parts of the plot were a surprise to me as we see Bruno interact with many outsiders who are interested in investing in the area. His commitments to his mayor and his community are tested, and the plot (neatly) resolves in a way that allows him to fulfill both.

4.5 stars; began the book listening to the audio version and ended in reading print copy. Print copy is far superior with this series! The narrator is fine, but I missed so much by listening.

Readers who like the Louise Penny books would probably also like this mystery series set in a small town in France.

The second in the Bruno series was an intricate mystery involving wine, environmentalists, and family dramas. Bruno's unruffled approach to solving crimes and diffusing tense situations is comforting and at times amusing. One of life's pleasures when you realize that you are at the beginning of a well-established series and have plenty more to read.
