Interesting, enjoyable enough read. Some parts dragged on a little, but still worth the read.

This was really great, such an interesting story, hard to believe it is true. Also, really well written!!

One of my all-time favorites.

If you haven’t read this book, please put it next in your queue. Beautifully written and such an interesting life, love how she tells her stories as the experiences of friends and loved ones.

Goodreads - you really must figure out a way to account for re-reading of books. This is the second time I have read "West with the Night" - and I enjoyed the second reading as much as the first (in 2005). Beryl Markham led an extraordinary life (though I realise this book does not include so much detail - e.g., husbands and son), which I find inspiring - especially given the time and place in which she lived. If this book does not make you want to drop everything and pursue your passions, I am not sure what would!

Excellent.

A remarkable woman and a remarkable writer.

This book had some very beautiful poetic passages in it! Overall, I liked it, though I felt like it dragged a bit at certain points. I liked the airplane stuff the most - it was really cool hearing about how aviation worked so long ago.

Also the author complains about textbook authors not knowing what a one-syllable word is.... don't throw stones in glass houses

This was a fantastic book. The writing was insightful and felt like some of the issues discussed were from yesterday's news not the 1930's. The humor was distinctly British. Subtle yet funny and I love reading about her life.

"A map says to you.
Read me carefully, follow me closely, doubt me not... I am the earth in the palm of your hand."

"I have learned that if you must leave a place that you have lived in and loved and where all your yesteryears are buried deep, leave it any way except a slow way, leave it the fastest way you can. Never turn back and never believe that an hour you remember is a better hour because it is dead. Passed years seem safe ones, vanquished ones, while the future lives in a cloud, formidable from a distance."
