Thank you Random House for the free book.

Gorgeous grifters seducing billionaires? Just another day in Duluth!

…or, the premise of Wendy Heard’s delicious thriller about two wily women who get in over their heads with a suspiciously sympathetic tech bro.

I had two problems with the book, one it was very predictable, and two the narrators' voices were so similar it was hard for me to tell them apart.
I did like the story. I thought it was a more complex story than some mystery/thrillers. However, I knew who the killer was and what he'd done previously pretty early in the book. The big sign was right there staring you in the face. I wish the author had made it less obvious.
I did like the moral/lesson of the story. As well as the ending and the non-traditional main characters. While I don't usually prefer unlikable mcs the ones in this book were just relatable enough to make the book interesting.
Overall, an okay book, with good but similarly voiced narrators.

I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is a solid summer read--a fast-paced popcorn thriller following two women navigating the sinister secrets of the wealthy in the tech industry as they try to escape a private island. (The White Lotus comparisons are apt.) The pacing falters in spots, and there's an issue with tense congruity (some chapters are in past, others in present) that might be a conscious choice--can't get into it too much without revealing spoilers--or is an oversight that would hopefully be fixed before publication. Overall, it's a fun book with just enough cat-and-mouse drive and a twist that's easily predictable but still shocking enough to keep one reading.

Summer and Leo are conwomen who are always on the move. When Leo sets her sights on billionaire Michael Forrester, she thinks she’ll finally be able to pay Summer back for everything she’s done for her. However, when Summer isn’t able to get in contact with Leo after her date with Michael, she takes matters into her own hands to find her friend and cons her way onto Michael’s private island where not everything is as it seems.

YOU CAN TRUST ME by Wendy Heard was a fast-paced ridiculous ride and I was immediately sucked into the plot!

This book was ultimately about the friendship between Summer and Leo, which was so beautiful, and the stakes one is willing to take for the one they love. Summer and Leo were such strong characters and their backstories helped shape them in a nice way.

The twist hit me right before it was revealed, and it was shocking and heartbreaking at the same time.

This is going to make for the perfect beach read this summer!

Thanks to NetGalley, Random House Publishing Ballantine, and Bantam for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review! I was super excited to see I didn’t even have to apply for this ARC, and I was hooked on this book, even though I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump. It’s fast paced and enjoyable - I probably should have figured out the twist, but once it happened it was one that surprised me but ALSO made sense which I appreciate. A lot of thrillers I’ve read have twists for the sake of a surprise, and I appreciate that this one is clear and wasn’t too out there.

I only give it a point off because there’s a character who we never get a follow up to on what happens to them! It’s an intentional open ended thing, not something the author forgot, but I still wanted so badly to get an update.
