It's fun to read graphic novels sometimes! A visual experience indeed. Story-wise the Locke and Key don't have much to offer sadly. Some events happen, then some other events happen and at one point it all ends. Maybe this is just the setting up of the whole series so it was kinda boring, the following books in the series would be more interesting. Can only hope! The illustrations are very vivid (kudos on that!) and the way the flashbacks are presented in the story fits nicely. The story is such that it would have been worse without a visual medium so it makes sense to be a comic.

A frightening and imaginative work. Hill and Rodríguez's vision is consistent, horrifying and creative. While reading comics is rare for me reading this series made me want to perhaps read more.

These works succeed more than the fail: it's only around the edges where some of luster has rubbed off. There are some moments that feel almost like padding. There are some moments where events transpire in a way that is perhaps slightly too gratuitous.

I'd recommend this series for anyone with a strong stomach and a bright light.

(Note: this review is for the entire series and not just the first issue.)

Pretty cool! Way more graphically brutal and violent than I expected going in blind, but I was pleasantly surprised by the unique plot! It was an easy read and I was definitely curious and still am with that cliffhanger ending. Already downloaded the next one!

I'm reading this in the spirit of Goodreds Horror Week, but it's not really my thing. I can't put my finger on the story yet but I only read one issue so far and I'm not hooked, but I'll be back.

I took this out from my public library, I was curious since I liked the show so much (and now have to wait for season two!).
There's quite a difference between the comic book and the Netflix version...but I really like both for different reasons.
I'm interested to see what happens since Sam is dealt with already in this book and things are getting pretty interesting...

The art for this was...very off-putting and not in a good horror type of way, but in a garbage pail kids kind of way. I found myself wondering why I should care about any of the characters, the story, or anything that was happening.
