This is a companion book to A Cursed Heart that tells the events from Rian's point of view and out of the four Myths of Airren books I've read this was by far my favorite.  Rian's point of view was my favorite from the four books in this series and I enjoy his character the most.  I think book also changed how I looked at the series as a whole because of how it ended.  I think I enjoyed the other books but I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed by the ending of each book before but they either felt dissatisfy or uprupt and incomplete but for the first time in this series I was left disappointed by the ending because this book ended with a true cliffhanger that promised more.  Before I read any of these books I thought it was a true series but then I read the first one and was a bit confused because it read a bit more like a standalone.  I think I saw somewhere the books described more like a group of interconnected standalones rather than a true series but after finishing this one, I think it is more of a series just not one written in a linear fashion.  I don't think you would be able to get the full picture without having read each book because they are all very connected even if one book focuses more on one couple more than the other.  I also appreciate that these companion books do add a lot to the overall plot of the series.  This book isn't just a complete copy of A Cursed Heart but in Rian's point of view, there are things in this story that don't appear in Aveen's story that are vital to the overall plot so it's more than just an extra story but rather a necessary read and I really like that about it.  I'm also happy to read that the next book with have all four points of view together so hopefully some of those loose plotlines will get tied up and I would like to see all four of them working together to take down Rian's evil mother.  I really liked this one and it definitely made me rethink how I felt about the other ones and how maybe I was a bit harsh about their upbrupt endings since the next book seems like it will be the true ending.

Another 5 read from Jenny Hickman

“For her I would kneel.
For her I would bow.
For her I would live in the feckin' dirt.”

I didn’t think I could love Rían more than I already did, but I do.

I read this in less than 24 hours because I could not put it down. I was so invested Aveen and Rían’s story in A Cursed Heart, but something about his POV in Prince of Deception just made it all more addicting.

I laughed so much reading this I was almost in tears. The wittiness and banter was incredible. The plot was laced with so many layers of secrets, mystery, betrayal, banter, love, and magic.
I loved reading the story play out from Rían’s perspective. There were so many scenes that were perceived so differently than Aveen’s. Jenny also gave us so much backstory for him, and really showed us why he acts and says the things he does. His story was truly heartbreaking and I am so glad we got to see it.

The cliffhanger was a huge killer though, and I don’t think I’ll ever forgive her for it.

I honestly don’t know what to do with myself but right now. I’m not sure whether to scream, cry, or throw my kindle. 😂🙈

I will preface this by saying that you DEFINITELY need to have read the other 3 books in the series first (I’m a fan of reading in release order over chronological, since all 4 books technically follow a near-identical timeline), but if you loved the rest, and ESPECIALLY if (like me) Rían is your favorite, YOU NEED THIS BOOK IN YOUR LIFE.

His perspective is hilarious and snarky and I’m so here for it. I actually had to move to reading in my room so no one could laugh at my facial expressions or be weirded out by my random giggles. I read it in one sitting, I laughed, I almost cried, and I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT.

FAIR WARNING: the ending is a DOOZY AND I NEED A CURSED LOVE ASAP. BECAUSE I AM NOT WELL.

All said and done: 5 stars, 10/10 recommend for Myths of Airren fans. YOU NEED THE RÍAN BOOK. Even if you hated him to start with. I kind of did after ACK, then read ACH and discovered Aveen is basically me and she has the most fun. 😜 so read the Rían book.

I received an advance copy from the author, all opinions are my own, and a review was not required.
