I don’t know why this book was so slow to start out but I had to restart it one THREE different occasions, after adoring The Knight and the Moth to get into it, but thank god I did. 

Once you get past the mundanity and droning on about berries, this story truly starts to take shape. With a unique magic system and a tale full of political intrigue, self-discovery, and love, this book is sure to be one of my favorite reads this year. 

I will be diving immediately into the second book and setting my calendar for all new releases by Rachel Gillig.

Honestly not sure what I expected from this book but I am speechless. I was so invested early on and the magic system is so interesting. I love Rachel Gillig’s writing style and cannot believe I waited so long to read this series!

Absolutely enthralled with this dark mysterious fantasy world. I loved the plot so much, and all the characters. The writing style made it very easy to be completely drawn into this story. I could not put it down! The romance aspect felt slightly Y/A but honestly I feel like it made the story so much better. The plot just continuously kept building in the best way possible.
