This is not my favorite thriller book. It's definitely not a 'who done it' with twists and turns. However, I really enjoyed it for what it was. The fact that it was based off a real life story made it more interesting to me. The begining dragged a bit. The middle was okay. And I really enjoyed the ending. 3.5 bumped up to 4 for me.

Miley… wrecking ball… really???

Solid 3.5 star book - it was paced well for the most part and really engaging. I went into this blind because I’d liked Ask for Andrea so just wanted to read more of the authors work.

Characters
The main characters were likeable enough to root for 🥳 I enjoyed Marys character growth and the villains were appropriately disgusting (and wanted to know more about Hamish and Fred’s background)

Setting
🌲 I love being in the woods and seeing pretty lakes - I have worked at a summer camp before so it kinda felt nostalgic. I maybe would have liked more about the “prep stuff”

Plot
It was only after I read this that I found out it was loosely based on a true story which is why I gave plot a 4 star - would have almost seemed far fetched otherwise!
The first half was more gripping but and the thing that brought it down for me was the ending seemed a bit rushed and the time line confusing. It took her and the captors 3 days to get to cabin and her 1 day to get back down but WEEKS for Brent and Wes to pick up the trail? I know it’s vast but they seemed to get to the original trail quickly to return 🤔

No real plot twist and the romantic subplot didn’t feel super convincing

I don’t think the death was necessary. I know it raised the stakes and made it sad but just felt a bit unnecessary

Vibes
This is quite an easy, quick survival thriller and the conclusion is all neatly wrapped up. I enjoyed it overall but I think I would have enjoyed it more and connected to the characters more if I knew it was based on real events before I read it.

Recommend?
It’s a maybe from me
