I fell for the hype that TikTok gave this book. It’s a predictable Disney, PG-13 kidnapping. Just when I was about to give up on the book, they made the bad guys gritty enough to keep me hanging on. Not long after that even the bad guys became predictable and I was just in too far to DNF it. I’m still waiting for the “twists”.

Devoured this book. Such a good thriller and the writing made me feel like I was a part of the story. Spoilers*
An athlete gets taken in the forest by “preppers” a father and son, where she is kept to be their “wife” and “tamed”, beaten. She realizes the other woman is a girl that went missing years ago. The story is following her time held captive while her friend (that she is in love with) searches for her. They end up finding her but it’s not the cheesy happy ending - still some despair mixed in. I loved the different avenues and dimensions of this book and it had me feeling every emotion.

Gray After Dark follows the story of a runner who is abducted during her run, a premise that hit uncomfortably close to home for me, as it’s one of my worst fears. The tension is immediate, and the terrifying ordeal Miley endures is nothing short of a nightmare. Those moments were definitely the high points of the book, delivering suspense and a sense of urgency that kept me turning the pages.

That said, the story was fairly predictable, and I found there wasn’t much in the way of character depth. While the plot kept me engaged, I never felt truly connected to the characters beyond the surface level. If you’re looking for an entertaining, adrenaline-fueled read rather than a deep emotional dive, this one delivers.
