Who the villains were was kinda obvious, just didn’t expect Jem to be killed or that Melina was the one murdered.

I didn't sympathize with any of the characters and overall, the plot wasn't very interesting or gripping.

No bad. I used to love Sandra Brown. Maybe I’ve outgrown her but the dialogue seems juvenile. Still a decent story with a nice twist.  Not much mystery after the half way point.

I should’ve checked the genres section of this book before starting it.... I did not expect this to be partly romance, which I tend to dislike, but the mystery side was interesting enough to keep me listening. However the dialogue really put me off because it’s all so unnatural-sounding. The characters don’t have distinct voices because their speech sounds like prose. The book also unnecessarily over-explains itself and its characters, leaving nothing for readers to ponder about. And speaking of the characters, the main villains cannot be any more stereotypical. It’s like Brown read the psychological profile for cult leaders and followers, and decided to put only those traits into her characters. The other characters are also quite flat, either perfectly perfect or perfectly average.

Although this was largely a cringeworthy listen, I enjoyed the plot even though I did figure out the twist before it happened.

Enjoyable story

I can always count on Sandra Brown for a crazy thriller that’s going to keep my interested. I didn’t know what was happening until the last 10 pages of the book. So crazy but so good!

a bit unrealistic in some of the situations the main characters put themselves in and a bit too graphic about the mental state and actions of the very sick cult leader
