What I love best about this novel is the seemingly endless roads of inquiry it offers the reader. That and the way it gently eases you into loving severely stunted, unlikable characters. It's one of the most successful novels I've ever taught, and I'm an Americanist. That should count for something, no?

I enjoyed Brontë’s writing and loved the story.
Subtle. Smooth. Funny. Cute. And obviously an enjoyable read.
Unlike most Gothic novels from her era, or the most notable work by her own sister, Wuthering Height. Jane Eyre put Gothic fashion in lighter sense.
The story was basically a simple one. Almost similar with Oliver Twist and other Dickensian's stories. The heroine, Jane Eyre, is a kickass in her own way. She has her own beliefs and optimism, and kept it throughout her life. One impressive trait of her, is that she never falter, she has her doubts, she has her own worry and hard times, but she never falter. Forced to retreat, yes, but admitting defeat, a clear no.
That's what I call as a real heroine.
The other characters in this story also held their places respectively, and appropriately. Mr. Rochester as her love interest was flawed, like, really flawed. But somehow, that didn't put Jane in a Saint-like position. Lots of people may think she's a fool for abandoning Mr. Rochester when he asked her to marry him for the first time, after she found out that he's still married, to a lunatic. And I believe, more people are a bit enraged when she turned down her cousin's proposal as well as offer to be a missionary in India.
However, Jane proved that any decision she made, they're all based on logic with careful calculation.

This was quite captivating. Jane is such a strong character!
I was bored or frustrated at various points, but I do think the faults are mainly because of its age
I probably would have appreciated this more if I was Christian, because there is sooo much theology and it all went over my head.
