I literally love this book with my whole being. I read it in fifth grade and have reread it many times since. It is such a good book to curl up in a blanket and just read. I also love to reread it once I’m starting to get bored of a book and need a break. I cry every time I read this book. It is definitely a middle grade book but such a cozy read that even after you’re out of the age range it will still have its effect on you.

A serious gut punch of a book. Beautiful, and will knock the wind out of you. Some very sweet characters caring for each other in the best ways they can, everyone trying their best in their own clumsy ways. I took away one star for
the idea that after the first big breakthrough you might just be done with therapy and not need it anymore.

Religion, sexuality, race, obesity, mental health... This author tried to tackle it all in one short book, and ends up doing more harm than good for some topics. Especially with how he was throwing the word 'crazy' around.
But the real frustrating part of this book is that it seems like the author was short on words so just pasted in half a dictionary. I guess it was meant as a sweet ritual between son in mother, but instead it just felt like an annoying disruption that pulled me out of the scene.
The ending was pretty good, but not worth the 75% leading up to it.
