Review
This is a very sickly sweet story – it is literally boy bumps into girl – stalks her in a sweet kind of way , they get together ,……and then don’t…… and then do.
It was an ok story and quite an easy listen, I would think that my mum would love it as it is quite Mills and Boony (is that a word?)
It is my first Dessen book and reading the other reviews one of the better ones ……….. I will reserve my judgement and try another one to give her the benefit of the doubt, but it was a little bit too sweet for my liking.
Perhaps there will be a serial killer or something in some of the other ones which will peak my interest !!
I quite liked the characters, Remy is not the normal sweet no sex before marriage kind of girl, she has smoked and shock horror had more than 1 conquest!!
Dexter is cool, he is clumsy and doesn't beat around the bush.
A couple of the other characters are cool too, little john was sweet and his crush on his boss was cute.
Ted was just grumpy throughout the whole book haha.
Hate Spinnerbait !

Me gustó mucho más que la primera vez que lo leí. Me sentí muy identificada con Remy y la historia me hizo reflexionar más y pude ver a través de ella.
Abandoned this one about half way through the second chapter. Remy is wholly unlikable and the constant stream of nasty language made me completely uninterested in even attempting to find something to like about her. Although, based on some of the other reviews, I'm guessing it would have been a wasted effort anyway.
Between the chain smoking, boozing it up, sneaking into clubs with fake IDs (so they could continue to booze it up), and Remy's condescending attitude of her friend who's still dating the boy she first slept with (presumably years ago and apparently covering a period of time that Remy believes it would have been appropriate to casually sleep with an endless number of guys), I'm assuming we're supposed to believe that they're all more mature. Really didn't get that impression across. They came off more like middle schoolers, trying too hard to be grown up.
I can't for the life of me remember why I bought this book. Probably the pretty cover, but I hope it's not an indication of how the author writes or I'll be very upset that I've wasted money (not to mention shelf space) on her other books.

This is my 2nd Dessen novel and I can honestly say I'm hooked. I see myself devouring everything this author writes from here on out.
This Lullaby follows a girl who has a very jaded view of love due to an absentee father and a mother with multiple marriages under her belt. It's easy to see how she came to disbelieve in love with this history and even if you haven't been in the same position, you'll find yourself connecting with her and sympathizing with her history.
The biggest lesson to be learned from this story, is not to give up on love. That it's not perfect and things will go wrong, but there is still hope, there is still that chance that you'll find the one who will be perfect for you and the one who you will overlook things that used to bother you simply because you love them. It's about putting your past behind you and learning to live your own life with your own ideals and moving on from a past that hurt you.
I think fans of the author and fans of YA contemporary romance will really enjoy this book.

Original Title: This Lullaby
Publisher, year: Hodder Children's Books, 2008
Page total: 384
Date Read: june 16-17 2010
Genre/s: YA, chick-lit, romance, fiction
First line of Book: "The name of the song is 'This Lullaby'"
Review: Remy doesn't believe in love. But would you believe in love if your mother had gone through four failed marriages, getting into her fifth?
Remy's father was a musician, none of his songs is famous, except for one, called 'This Lullaby', which was written for her on the day she was born.
Both facts above mentioned contributed to Remy's cynical opinion of love. She's with a guy for a couple of weeks and then dumps him, not wanting to get emotionally attached. Then, she meets Dexter. Messy, disorganized, impulsive Dexter, who is everything she hates, and worst, a musician like her father. But what if he's just what she needs to comprehend love?
This book made me gag, gasp, shriek, cry out loud, grin from ear to ear, laugh, say 'ooh's and 'aah's and, finally, shut up.
Amazing.
Have you ever got that feeling that makes you want to erase your memory after reading a book, just so that you can reread it and feel everything all over again? That's what I want to do. For indefinite times.
Rating: 5/5 stars
Quotes from book:
"Love is needing someone. Love is putting up with someone's bad qualities because they somehow complete you."
---------------
"No relationship is perfect, ever. There are always some ways you have to bend, to compromise, to give something up in order to gain something greater...The love we have for each other is bigger than these small differences. And that's the key. It's like a big pie chart, and the love in a relationship has to be the biggest piece. Love can make up for a lot."
---------------
"You know, when it works, love is pretty amazing. It's not overrated. There's a reason for all those songs."
---------------
"Everything, in the end, comes down to timing. One second, one minute, one hour could make all the difference."
---------------
"What did it feel like, I wondered, to love someone that much? So much that you couldn't even control yourself when they came close, as if you might just break free of whatever was holding you and throw yourself at them with enough force to easily overwhelm you both. I had to wonder, but he clearly knew: you could see it, feel it coming off him, like a heat. I almost envied him that. Almost."
---------------
"Love is so unpredictable. That what makes it so great"
---------------
"If what you're asking is how I debated whether or not to love her the answer is I didn't. Not at all. It just happened. I didn't ever question it; by the time I realized what was happening, it was already done."
---------------
"I know there were no guaratnees. No way of knowing what came next for me, or him, or anything. Some things dont last forever, but some things do. Like a great song, or a good book, or a good memory you can take out and unfold in your darkest times, pressing down the corners and peering close, hoping you still see the person you see there . . . That was the thing, you just never knew. Right now, though, I wanted not to think forward or backward, but only to lose myself in the words."

This one was my second favourite Sarah Dessen book so far. I really really enjoyed this particular story and all of its characters. Remy is a more complex protagonist than most of the other protagonists Dessen has written; she has multiple inner issues that she has to work out which wasn't completely centred on the love story. I also loved all of the quirky and loveable characters there were, and how the story didn't seem as formulaic as her other ones. I also felt that this one was more realistic, and the dialogue more realistic than her other books. This story was really quirky and I laughed out loud at times, especially at Dexter. Dexter is not Dessen's typical romantic interest, which I enjoyed a lot. He wasn't the tall, tan, buff but not too buff gorgeous type that we see so very often; Dexter had lots of odd quirks and mannerism that made him extremely interesting. I wished that I could have gotten a little more in depth with Remy's issue with "This lullaby", because I feel like it wasn't part of the story enough. Overall I really enjoyed it and I would recommend it to fans of contemporary.
