Overall, this wasn't her best work, but just average. Towards the end, I found myself getting bored of the main character. I also found myself skipping over some pages just to skip the useless descriptions and find out what happens to Remy and Dexter already.
I would okay recommend if this isn't your first Sarah Dessen book, because there are plenty of better ones.

probably the first time ive re-read this book since high school i think. i remember everyone around me being hype around sarah dessen and i tried my hand with this book and wasn't sure if i was sold on her at the time, which is fine.
i do love a good breakup/makeup, although remy was so in denial about her own feelings i didn't really get to enjoy any pining, haha. i appreciated her growth over the course of the summer, but i do think the book dragged a bit bc of the stagnant nature of her point of view. not a bad listen but it didn't blow me away.

I enjoyed this far more than I expected. I have never read anything by Sarah Dessen before and I was pleasantly surprised.
The story takes place over the span of one summer and it is a perfect light summer read. The main character is very human, with plenty of flaws and lables and I actually really liked that. Remy’s character was well developed and it was clear why she was the way she was throughout. I especially liked the family dynamics in this book and the curve of Remy’s relationship with her mother.
I really enjoyed the writing. It was quite dry and witty in places. The way the romance was written was pretty good too. Not overly sugarly and kind of understated. Although the romance was the main plot point, a lot of the novel was focussed on friendships and family.
In my opinion this is a really solid contemporary young adult novel that is perfect as a summer read and avoids ever getting too sweet or cheesy. It is not the kind of book I could read tons of back to back, but it does what it does very well.

hated it. I somewhat liked Lock and Key so i figured this would be pretty good. I was wrong. I've read this plot millions of times. It was boring, uneventful and a waste of my time.
As this book was my first Sarah Dessen book to pick up, I was really looking forward to reading it. However, sad as it is, I really did not enjoy this book! For me, it felt like I was dragging my way through it and nothing seemed to happen! I was consistently disappointed throughout the events of this novel. I just don't have much to say. That being said though, I find it unfair to just diss an author because of one book, so I think I'm going to try another of her books and hopefully I'll like it more!!
