4/5: Loved it !
What a great book ! I thought I would hate this it, because most summer books are boring and not thrilling at all, with a stupid main character and a beau.
But this one was very good ! I loved everything, from Remy to Dexter to her environement and her friends..
It was not boring, not like "the Duff". The main character thinks she knows everything about love but she doesnt come off as a pretencious and annoying "know-it-all". She's just a normal girl, with a heavy past, that made conclusions about love a little bit too fast.
And Dexter.. oh Dexter. ♥ He is so sweet and cute and very charming. You gotta love him !
It's my first Sarah Dessen book, and she did an awesome job.

More like 3.5 stars
I really enjoyed this book, but Remy kind of destroyed it with her angst. A good read thought.

“I am coming to terms with the fact that loving someone requires a leap of faith, and that a soft landing is never guaranteed.”
I am torn between giving three stars, or four. On one hand, it was an amazing journey, a love story that I actually did not have to force myself to read. On the other hand, I wrecked over the lack of closure and sped up ending.
I'll be merciful, as this is only one of the few romance novels I actually finished.
Overall, the characters are actually likeable, and I could relate to Remy very well. (We are both cynics up front, but romantics at heart.) They did not make me hate them with a passion like some other books I've read. And most importantly, the story gave me the gushy, butterfly-in-my-stomachs, I'm-cringing-from-all-this-love-but-not-in-a-bad-way feeling I was looking for this season.

This Lullaby has always been a Dessen novel Id hesitate to reread. Remy with her cold and cynical attitude toward love constantly intimidated me. But during this reread I found her attitude justified and loved seeing her grow with Dexter by her side. Dexter has always been a favorite of mine and seeing the two if them morph and change one another was great.
"This Lullaby" is the first Sarah Dessen book I have read. I have heard great things about her and so I was really looking forward to reading this. But sadly, I was really disappointed.
I hate that I'm writing this, but I just didn't like this book. The story itself isn't bad and the writing is pretty good, but I just couldn't relate to the characters at all, especially Remy. Although I do kind of understand why she is the way she is, I hated her personality. Most of the time, I just wanted to kill her for behaving a certain way and when that wasn't the case, I was just bored by her. I was so bored, in fact, that I didn't even finish reading this book, and that doesn't happen very often. My opinion is, if the characters aren't good, then the book can't possibly be either.
But, of course, there are a lot of other people who seem to like this book, so I guess it depends on the person who reads it.

I reread this book this year and it's still one of my favorite books of all time. Maybe it's the nostalgia, but this is the best book Sarah Dessen has ever written. Dexter and Remy are the most compelling couple that Sarah Dessen has ever written about. This book was my everything when I was younger and I still feel the same way about it over a decade later. That says a lot.
Remy was my first foray into my love of unlikeable female characters. I didn't know it at the time, but I loved Remy because she wasn't sweet and innocent and naive. She is responsible, but not perfect. And Dexter. Dexter! The greatest book boyfriend of Sarah's? They had everything, a small hate to love, a sweet but not cheesy meet cute, witty banter, angst!!!!
There aren't enough words for me to talk about this book. Sure I'm nostalgic, but it's a good book and one of Sarah Dessen's most under appreciated books. Don't sleep on Remy!!!!!

Okay I still hold everything I previously said. Dexter is lovely and Remy is extremely annoying, whatever Dexter finds "adorable" in her is a mystery to me, and the whole thing is just confusing in that sense. That said, I really liked one of the Remy/Dex scenes specifically, the one in the grocery store.
Overall, I liked it, but the main character made the read kind of annoying as a whole at times -but only at times. I also laughed a lot whenever the whole band was on the scene. Forgettable, but nice.

You know how books have up and downs? Good, good, better, best, the end? It usually goes in a kind of curve, but this novel didn't. It was kind of flat actually. I liked the characters and the plot, it just wasn't told as well as it could have been.
But it wasn't all bad either, so you should read it!
