This is a historic fiction about the ladies who made Queen Elizabeth’s wedding dress. Great WWII historical fiction post war England.

The Gown is historical fiction about two young women who work as embroiderers in the exclusive dressmaker shop that creates the wedding gown of Princess Elizabeth (whom we now know as Queen Elizabeth). It’s at its best when describing post-WW2 England and the hardships that everyone endured in the aftermath of the war. After awhile it worked less well for me, and I can’t think of a way to explain that without sounding like a hopeless snob. It will work well for fans of Debbie Macomber and Robyn Carr, I think, and since I’ve read and enjoyed novels by both of them, that’s not a bad thing.

Even though this book was fiction it was so good, I loved the idea of being behind the scenes on how the dresses for the queen were made, and seeing the reactions of the seamstresses when they saw the creations on TV.
This book was funny, charming and captivating all in one. I love the women she created and how it all tied in together in this one book.
I do love historical fiction, it might be in my top 5 favourite genre.
I love how it went to the future and the past those are my favourite type of books.

The simplistic writing was so bland, that even one chapter in with all three characters, I couldn’t stand it. DNF.

I enjoyed the book thoroughly. I love this part of history, and have always been one of those people fascinated with the royals. I thought it was well written overall, but I do wish the characters had a bit more depth. That is to say, I thought Miriam, Heather, and Ann were compelling characters, I’m just not sure if they were fleshed out as much as I’d like. The characterizations felt very simplistic at times - almost like you’d find in a YA novel.
