A dark Cinderella retelling with interesting characters!

The first part of the book was a lot of world-building, and it took me some time to get into it, but once I got through it I flew through the rest. Definitely worth the read!

If you don’t like cliffhanger endings, beware that this book has one!

Completely obsessed with this book!! I cannot wait for the sequel!!!

This could've been great, but sadly was all over the place...

I didn't like the MC , Finnian was toxic even in possessive male standards and Elora was so
bland ... pepper seems spicy...

Even the Pumpkin King seemed kinda boring and without depth ..

The book is pretty at least..

This was my first read post HOFAS and it did not disappoint!

Summary:

In her desperation to prevent the downfall of her kingdom and the death of her beloved Fae, Elora drinks from an enchanted spring, convinced she can make Prince Finnian of Pumpkin Hollow fall in love with her and guarantee their safety. But magic takes to give. And Elora didn’t realize her heart would be the sacrifice.

Spice:

I enjoyed the first 50% but then it turned into a story that I wasn't personally invested in. Ellie began to seem helpless/naive and I really detest that in stories to any degree so I was immediately put off.

I read this over the weekend and found it enjoyable. The story was easy to follow and with it being a Cinderella retelling it's not hard to guess what was going to happen next. I initially did not like both main characters, Ellie and Finnian, but as they grew in their relationship from hate, dislike, and eventually love the better parts of their personalities came out. I felt like they helped whittle away at the less savory parts of their personalities with their love for one another. However, I did not love everything with this book. For most of the book, I was wondering what the hell the title had to do with the book because, in my honest opinion, - the Cinder Fae take a good backseat to the story until the last 10% of the book. I feel like the title alludes/sets up what will happen in the next book. I also got tired of the smut scenes in the last 15% of the book because I wanted more of the plot. In my opinion, Ellie and Finnian don't have the healthiest relationship because there is toxicity present. I'm hoping it improves. The dark elements are not so dark for me but check for any trigger elements prior to reading. I'll continue the series as Ellie and Finnian's story is not quite over yet.

DID NOT FINISH: 85%

The story started out really good, maybe a little confusing with the new world, but very intrigued by the fae. Then, the book goes downhill. Nothing happens. For about the next 50% of the book. Just politics and courting, but this could have been dwindled down to a few chapters. And where did the fae go? The title is misleading. I thought it would focus more on the cinder fae, but they’re an afterthought, thrown in here and there. Still no idea what’s so special about the pumpkins.
Elora and Finnian just argue and have sex, in an endless cycle. I decided to DNF when I literally got depressed pressing play on the audio.
