My 10 yr. old son had this book delivered the day it was released. He LOVES Nathan Hale's hazardous tales. He's read nearly all of them and kept persisting that I read this newest one so much that I finally gave in. I'm so glad I did! I learned a ton about Haiti - I had no idea about the fascinating history of this island - and of course about the Louisiana Purchase too. Seeing the Hamilton musical has me extra interested in the Revolutionary War, so those Nathan Hale Hazardous Tales are up next!

An excellent middle-grade, graphic nonfiction that explores the intertwining history of the Haitian Revolution, Napoleon, and the Louisiana purchase. While it shows integrity in presenting the realities of the horrors of slavery and the revolution that followed, they are presented in an age-appropriate manner. This is my first book in this series, and I am now eager to explore its other offerings.

This was a really great, digestible volume that covered the various aspects that led to the Louisiana Purchase, including the Haitian Slave Revolt and Napoleon's rise to power. It was really cool. Kids books these days slap.

This one was good. I just didn’t like the way this was told. It was kind of confusing not gonna lie. I still learned a lot. History is so interesting and depressing honestly.

History unfolds in a masterful way that's both super informative and funny. I learned so much, i will definitely need to pick up the rest of the series.

Great new addition to this wonderful series. I enjoyed learning more about Haiti and how they succeeded in fighting for their freedom.

SO MUCH information in one tiny book. Again, for an adult that claims graphic novels are not actually "reading" or "real books", I would shove this tiny tome into their hand. Again, a part of history I was ignorant of and today's kids will get to read about it and understand why the world is so lopsided.

More about the events leading up to the Louisiana purchase then the purchase itself. Still a fantastic historical graphic novel for all ages, not just kids.
