3.4 AVERAGE

This was ok, but the main character was quite annoying and I was hoping for more hijinks.

2.5 Stars

I thought I was getting a romantic comedy but this is more like chick lit, and that's not a bad thing, it just wasn't what I was expecting. There is a lot going on in this book, Zoey is bad luck whenever she is a bridesmaid, this is going to be the fourth time, and she is determined to break the curse. I liked how the book showed how important female friendship is and it did have a touch of romance, just not the one I was expecting, and I was cheering a certain couple on. But then...bam! A couple appears out of the blue...that ending was really weird to me. On a more positive note I LOVE the cover, it is perfect in every way!

With many thanks to NetGalley, Alison Rose Greenberg and St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin for the giving of the ARC.

I don’t often listen to romcoms on audio but I knew I’d have this on my shelf for months if I didn’t take advantage of the audiobook on @anyplayfm! 💜 It was a quick listen and I would argue that it both is and is not your typical romance novel. As others have said, it’s less about the protagonist “finding the one” and more about her “finding herself,” but maybe that’s just the trendier trope for romcoms these days. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Interesting, I’m a bit split on this one. On one hand, there were components I loved enough to give the book four stars, like the protagonist’s unapologetic assertion of her beliefs about marriage and her admirable loyalty to her best friend. 👯‍♀️ On the other hand, there were some aspects that really rubbed me the wrong way and made me want to give it two stars, namely the author’s generally patronizing tone toward those interested in marriage and children, some uncomfortable cheating, and the fact that the protagonist didn’t seem to grow very much at all throughout the book. 🙅🏻‍♀️ So, I’ll compromise and go with a three star rating. ✨

I just couldn’t get past how unlikable  the main character is.

Thank you to NetGalle and St Martin's Press for giving me an eARC of Bad Lucky Bridesmaid in exchange for an open and honest review.

Zoey Marks doesn't believe in happily ever after, at least not one that ends in marriage, after three runaway brides with Zoey as a bridesmaid witness she is sure that marriage is just not for her, but when problems start to arise in her relationships because of this she has to start reflecting on if she's really bad luck or maybe she just wants different things than the masses.

Alison Rose Greenberg had such a unique writing voice in this novel, from the very start Bad Luck Bridesmaid, while the same sort of women's fiction, comedic feeling, romance filled book, the writing of it felt so different. The start of the novel and even deeper into it was a sort of replay into Zoey Marks life and past bridesmaid experiences. The use of the past tense and sort of having Zoey tell the story felt like such a refreshing way to write, it made the book feel so unique. Zoey was a fun main character who stuck to her guns and knew what she wanted, it was really refreshing to see and didn't feel like the type of main characters I usually see in novels like this. The romance and evident breakup in this book absolute had me pulled for a whirlwind and had me practically begging on my knees that they would stay together. Getting to watch Zoey come into her own and really start to understand what she wanted in life was amazing and honestly quite refreshing, she stuck to her guns and didn't wilt for anyone.

Overall, Bad Luck Bridesmaid was a whirlwind adventure with moments as high and happy as the tip of mountains to moments that had you on your knees begging right along with the love interest, in a short and sweet story Greenberg made you fall in love with every character that graced your page, especially strong willed and witty Zoey Marks.
