Interesting historical fiction with just the lightest touch of fantasy/magic realism, with the folktale EAST OF THE SUN, WEST OF THE MOON providing a frame/counternarrative to the story of a genteel London girl mistakenly convicted of theft and transported to Australia in 1814. Thanks, Liz, for sending me a copy from down under!

I found this book again over 10 years after first reading it (thanks to a group here on Goodreads) and it was just as good as I remembered

A historical novel for young adults that made me feel like a teenager again, because it made me remember one of my favorite books when I was younger, Abby Lynn by Rainer M. Schröder. Scatterheart, too, is a story about a young woman who due to various circumstances suddenly finds herself on the way to Australia, and it's a very unpleasant journey. It's a good book, and really engrossing - I finished it pretty much in one go on one afternoon.
