ive read quite a number of sheldon books to know his pattern and style and i can say that :
1) seeing as this is his first novel, its obvious that his writing style has improved a lot since then
2) i can already point out whos the bad guy here. it wasnt even a surprise at all. maybe bcs im too used to his writing style

This wasn't the best Sheldon novel, but given that it was his first I think that this can be understood. There were certainly glimmers of classic Sheldon within.
I just felt that in comparison with later novels, our narrator, Judd, was a bit too 2D. His personality was flat, there was no exploration of his motivations or fears, there was no real emotion despite the major events surrounding him. Usually Sheldon novels are so intricately developed that you feel every emotion that the narrator feels.
I agree with other reviewers in that the investigating police officers were a tad annoying in their steely determination to find the narrator guilty, and yes, leaving the bodies around to shock Judd was spectacularly inappropriate, but I kept trying to remember that Police in the 1970s were not as rigidly supervised as they are today.
An okay read, but not in comparison to Sheldon's later novels.

This is Sidney Sheldon’s very first published novel, originally published back in 1970. It won an Edgar award in the ”best first mystery” category and shows clear evidence of the author’s extensive background in writing screenplays and producing Broadway shows and television programs. He creates suspense very well and writes in a page-turning style.
While I enjoyed reading this novel, it does suffer from a predictable plot and a rushed finale. It also features some cringe-worthy social mores (particularly homosexuality) that will really bother many of today’s readers. Still, it is eminently readable and served me well as a book to read between more complex novels.

Read this a long time ago (20-30 years) in German.
Wanted to read it again as I discovered the TV-Movie with Roger Moore was available as a Blu-ray and
I am usually fond of reading a book and the watching the Movie/TV-Show.
Have not watched the Movie (watched it also 20-30 years ago in German TV before reading the German book).
Romance and Mystery, no real thriller. What I really liked about the movie was an added subplot where the Dr. used a terminal with an off-site cpu for record keeping (at that time very high tech) which played a minor role.
The murder scenes are bloody and may be for someone expecting a more romance-read, disturbing.
Recommended standalone romance-mystery if you know Sheldon and what to expect.

The start was pacy and kept me thinking about various possibilities but the author took a very different unexpected angle and by the time I got the hang of it, it got over. A good planned suspense story and minimal characterization made it an interesting read.
Bloody Inscrutable! Bloody brilliant!
Like Sidney was making me on track but he still gave me time for thinking around ten opportunities and suspects of the way that serial killer murdering people. Great one! Barely predictable but unpredictable ending!
Five stars at first but I think one of them is overrated because of drama they made at the end. I do hate love story in detective case, that’s gross.. So, 4 stars are enough.
Sidney, sidney, sidney sheldoney, I thought you were an old boring woman, with coffee addiction and long list of bills you must pay. But hello there! ;) cool guy (RIP) with breathtaking thriller story!
There are few of things I get nervous and scared of:
1. Poverty and numskulls on politics sector
2. Religious with idiocy
3. Holocaust
4. Mafia and megalomaniac boss
5. Zombies invasion who called themselves feminist
6. Justin Bieber fanatic fans
And this book they got level 4! O.M.A, Oh My Agnostic! They were great! I love it!
Anyway, I like the cover. It reminds me to Quentin Tarantino.

fast-paced
bom demais não me importar com nenhum dos personagens. só um livro de suspense e crime no thoughts head empty
