Gave it 2 stars just because I finished it instead of putting it down. Just WAY too implausible. Life falling apart suddenly is coming up roses—in unbelievable ways.

Synopsis:

Pippa Jones is an author of a best-selling novel, but three years have gone by and she hasn't been able to produce anything. With the pressure on from her agent and publishing house, she takes inspiration from her son and dares to do something unheard of in the literary community. Was the risk worth it? Who will stay by her as she sticks to her guns, and who can she trust?

My thoughts:

I went into this novel with a fairly open-mind. It was short, and I was in the mood for a quick read. On some level, the characters in this book are quite shallow, but they also teach us all some valuable lessons on life and love. I enjoyed most of the book, and it was easy reading, but the ending was so rushed.

Pippa's character worked as a great teacher on what motherhood is, and my heart hurt for how low her self esteem was. I was happy to see development throughout the book.

Favorite quote:

Marriage is a mix. Some days are warm, easy, loving. Other days you want to strangle the person because they’ve taken five minutes too long in the shower. But at the base of it all is trust, respect, affection, kindness

Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pippa Jones wrote a bestseller. Once. Now she's ahead of time for her new book. After a threat of breaking contract by her editor, she makes a bold move which can either end her career or skyrocket it.

Zibby Owens's debut novel is a genuine story about a woman in her fourties wondering what she has left to offer to the world. Pippa Jones is relatable in many ways. She's stucked in marriage that doesn't seem good to her, she has writer's block, and she has a massive mental load. While raising two teenagers, she has to think about everything.
This character feels so genuine, both in her thinking and in her behaviour. The dialogues in this book could be heard in a lot of household. It is truly refreshing to read this book because nothing feels out of place.
The critics the author adresses through Pippa about the writer/editor/reader world is so modern and very on point.

This was a very enjoyable read!

There were moments of cute and relatabilty in regards to being blocked or stuck. But the story felt rushed as if it didn't have time for 3-dimensional characters, and the majority of scenes felt contrived and unbelievable. The idea of 'Blank' (the fictional book) was great and well presented. The people that filled 'Blank' (the actual story) were flat as chocolate chip pancakes.
