I am a big fan of Grace Draven, she writes such complicated morally grey characters, and yet you feel the pain that brought them to where they are, and the humanity that still lies within. Silhara Master of Crows, is fighting a lost God for control over his soul. This god was once defeated, or so everyone thought, and he dangles absolute power and wreackage as the bait. Silhara knows he is caving under the preasure so calls on the Conclave, for an initiate that knows languages for some help in finding a way to contain the God. And this brings us to Martise.
Martise was offered her soul back in exchange for spying on Silhara, her Master wants something that will Damn Silhara in the eyes of the Conclave.
Thus begins the journey of these two towards learning about each other and the secrets of the Gods first defeat.
We meet Silharas mute servant/friend, and his mage finding dog Caul, who is apparently always very stinky, and a lovely sweet draft horse. There were a couple parts that were slow, but for the most part it was an exciting romantic story.

The disparaging of the female character's looks and attributes from the get go was a total turn off for me

I just love the way this author describes the MC's initial reactions to each other. It's a refreshing change in a genre that's often filled with inhuman beauty, to read of a plain-faced character who the love interest first believes is drab.

Loved the characters and couldn't put this down towards the end. After reading the Wraith King trilogy (which I also highly recommend, especially Radiance) and now this, I'm eager to continue making my way through the rest of Grace Draven's books!

I loved this story. Full review to follow.

This is one of my all-time favorite standalone fantasy romance books. The love interest is classic bad boy, and our heroine finds herself caught up in more complications than she can possibly outmaneuver from the start. Its a slow burn, but once their relationship catches fire, the heat is intense.
The ending is deeply satisfying and makes the highs and lows along the way worth it. The pacing lags a bit in the middle, but it doesn't lag long, and in my opinion, it's not without cause. It's the calm before the storm. I truly believe this book is a sleeper hit and recommend it often.

Poorly written.

What a great read (listen)! I picked up Master of Crows because I was looking for a new narrator on which to spend my Audible credits. I am so thrilled that I gave this novel a chance. It was so enthralling that I honestly couldn't stop listening. There is excitement in the overall plot and so much growth and entertainment between the characters. The secondary characters, even those we only see for a brief period, are fleshed out and just as interesting as the two leads. One of my favorite things is when I find a new to me author and enjoy their book so much that I immediately add all of their other titles to my "to be read" pile. Such is the case with Grace Draven. Recommended for fans of fantasy novels with some steamy romance thrown in between resilient female leads and brooding male anti-heroes.

You know how I like it when they brood.
