Honestly, idk if it was the translation or the original writing, but I found it hard to connect with the characters. I also think it just wasn't what I was looking for. Plus, the
incest
and
consent issues
were a bit much for me.

I love the art style and the character design! I love some story beats even though I'm continuously anxious about what will happen. However, if you want to get into this story, be aware that rape is featured heavily. It doesn't happen constantly but it is the inciting incident of this story. In season 2, when the main character loses some of his powers, the threats is sexual assault grow almost constant. It is daunting to read, but at this point in time the rest of the story is enough compensation to remain intrigued.
Also, if this is difficult for you, please be aware that the main character murdered hundreds of children and women, meaning he murdered women and children specifically because they were women and children. If you read this, you will see corpses.

ENNEAD sometimes gets recommended as a thing you should read if you like BL and you're ok with darker themes. It's an interesting suggestion in that regard because I wouldn't really classify it as a BL. The two characters are arguably both male and in a sexual relationship, but they're also gods, uncle/nephew, and arguably not in a relationship at all.

The art in ENNEAD is quite good, with a clear eye towards action and distinctive character design. It's hard not to mention the strange orientalism that feels like it's very present in a webtoon about how all the Egyptian gods are all having sex with each other and are also very rarely dressed, but I am perhaps not the best equipped to go whole ham into that conversation. There's the general colorism of dark and powerful top paired with a smaller, whiter bottom.

If you're a person who would be troubled by incest, there's honestly no reason to read ENNEAD. There are very few relationships featured in this story that are not directly incestuous including the main "pairing" (again, I feel kind of hesitant to call it a pairing).

The writing is interesting, if a bit too complicated for the chosen medium. I appreciated the growth of Seths' character the most over the course of the run, giving him a bit of pathos to what could have been a fairly one note characterization. Similarly, Horus was a stoic character but one that felt like there was hidden depths there and not a lack of characterization.

Overall this is a hard recommend - the story is kind of mid, though the art does a lot of the heavy lifting here. The themes of incest and sexual assault are rather prevalent, bordering on gratuitous, and I'm not sure the rest of the story carries that level of intensity.
