** spoiler alert ** Still on the thought that Freida’s books aren’t for me although this was better than The Housemaid 🤦🏼♀️
I enjoyed the book but Freida has a habit of making the main characters SO fucking thick and that annoys me, I don’t have the energy to deal with someone irl like that let alone a book character. It seems to me that she has the main plot of the story down but then changes the ending last minute. Idk what it is but the endings always feel so random and they come across as though they weren’t the intended ending. Like you set it up so well to be Tim, why couldn’t you have just left it as that, and Tim was the one who killed everyone and he had a motive etc but no. And then you get the kid involved in killing his own dad? 😂
The book isn’t bad but idk it doesn’t work for me. Gonna give it a fair shot and read another of hers (just bc I already have them 🤦🏼♀️) but if this one’s a miss too, I’ll be binning you of Freida…

A bookish client recommended this book to me. I REALLY did not like The Housemaid by the same author so I was hesitant. But she said this didn’t have the very disturbing torture that was in the other book and she was pretty sure I’d enjoy this. So I gave it a try. And she was right! There’s def some violence but nothing like The Housemaid. I thought I saw all the twists coming. But then I’m happy to report I was wrong. Multiple times! A few things I did get right though so it was a solid mix and I really enjoyed it overall. This was a really good popcorn thriller/mystery in my opinion.

Brooke is an idiot and a terrible parent with no self preservation instincts whatsoever.
The motive for the murders was incredibly stupid and, again, because of Brooke’s dumb narrative voice everything just felt juvenile and convenient.

80% in I was hooked
... the last 20% was a let down. The motive was totally unbelievable and ridiculous.

Brooke is a pretty questionable parent in my opinion. This book is not worth waiting months for at the library.
