This one started off so promising, but the mystery got a bit convoluted and the scary/danger part of it seemed at one point very urgent and then the next moment not that big a deal. Also, could Olivia have been more useless and whimpering? She was basically good for nothing, and I wished she was so much stronger or more mentally focused. I mean, she's a pediatrician, and she seemed to buckle at any sign of stress. There was no explanation as to who Father, Mother, or the Family was and why they were doing what they were doing. Very disappointing.

If you're looking for a new psychological thriller, look no further! Hurt Mountain was easy to read and the chapters were short enough that I could finish a couple even in small amount of time. There was plenty of suspense that had me eager to keep going, but there were areas within the storyline that felt they were dragging at times - only briefly though! Overall, I enjoyed my experience of reading this book.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I had a hard time getting into this book until about the last half. As it started to pick up towards the end, then I had more interest and enjoyment in reading it. Some events I think happened too quickly without development and some dialog seemed awkward.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

I enjoyed this somewhat implausible tale. I appreciated the dynamic between the two main characters, but she seemed a little unstable to actually be a practicing physician. The ending felt a little rushed, but overall, I was entertained.
